Fish MuseumFish Museum represents the collection stuffed beings from the Adriatic Sea.
Makarska has probably the smallest museum in Croatia. It is located in an old stone house, on the ground floor of 30 square meters. On such a small space, there are collected more hundreds beings, taken from the Adriatic Sea. Besides the species from the bottom of the Adriatic Sea, there can also be seen beings and things taken out of the other seas and oceans. Some of them are drawn from sunken ships like amphorae, anchors… One can see shell fossils, as well. Certainly the most interesting are: Sea horse - Hippocampus Gutulatus. After spawning of the female of a sea horse, the male takes and carries descendants in its abdomen. Therefore, it symbolizes fidelity. Swordfish - Xiphias Gladius. Swordfish can be found in every part of the Adriatic Sea, but it lives in the open sea. It is 4 meters long, weighs 350 kilograms, and has a tasty meat. This is the fastest fish. Pen-Shell - Pinna Mobilis. It is the biggest shell in the Adriatic Sea. A small crayfish lives in each shell. Blue Crab - Maia Sovinado Herest is very skilful in camouflage. Octopus Mrkac - Octopus Vulgaris Lamk. After spawning octopus does not eat and stay still and because of that dies. It can be 1.3 meters long and 15 kilograms weight. Children like visiting this museum very much, but there are so many interesting things for adults to see, too. |
