The Cave with the Underwater Opening - Modra Spilja
Modra Spilja (Blue cave) on the island of Bisevo, is one of the most favorite
touristic spot!
There are many caves all around the islands in Dalmatia but the most beautiful
is Modra Spilja. Looking the sunlight, it seems to be even more beautiful than
the famous cave on Capri
When the weather is sunny and the water smooth, sunlight goes through the
undersea opening creating the fascinate blueness, and all objects plunged under
the surface of the sea get silver radiance
Many underground passages are protected geomorphological natural monuments, and
here also belongs the Modra spilja, on the island of Bisevo
The island called Bisevo is on the south - west of the island of Vis, placed in
the south Dalmatian archipelago. The surface of the island is almost six square
kilometers and it is five kilometers far from the Vis.
There are several caves on the island but the most famous one is Modra Spilja.
The opening to the cave was made in 1884 and since then visitors can go into
the cave by rowboats. It is very similar to the Italian Capri, but it is more
beautiful and attractive. When the weather is sunny and the water smooth,
sunlight goes through the undersea opening creating the fascinate blueness, and
all objects plunged under the surface of the sea get silver radiance.
There are vineyards in the center of the island and pine trees and under bush
on the north coast. Porat, Postrvo, Polje, Nevaja, Mezoporat and Salbunora are
small settlements located there.
The island is easily reachable, by fast boats - hydrofoils, and a one-day tour
will satisfy everyone!
