The old Island Town - HvarThe climate is extremely Mediterranean; with a lot of sunny days, very few rainy days, and almost without any snow. For this there is a rule on the island - the tourist pay half price when there rains all day, and their stay is free of charge when there is snow, what almost never happens!
Hvar is a town and a port on the southeast coast of the island of Hvar. It lies in the bay protected by the island group Pakleni Otoci. Hvar is the town with the highest air temperature in Croatia. Mild climate, many sunny days, natural beauties attract tourists to the town in summer and winter, as well. Hvar is a town of an extraordinary cultural and historical inheritance: Arsenal from the 13th - 15th centuries, the first European commune theatre, Franciscan monastery famous for its collection of pictures especially Ignoli’s Last Dinner, a fortress with fantastic view to Pakleni Otoci, Vis and the cathedral. The building of Arsenal is located on the square and represents the most significant monument of the Croatian naval past. Its building started in the 14th century but it was completed at the beginning of the 17th century. After finishing the Arsenal, a theatre is opened upstairs - two very different things met in the same building: navigation and theatre. The town has the most beautiful square in entire Dalmatia, built in 1573, by filling the sea bay. |
