Reporting regulations

All foreign vessels over 3 m in length and all vessels with an engine rated over 4kW, irrespective of length, most report at a Port Authority Office.

The following are required for reporting:

1. Certificate or other appropriate registration document

2. Proof of seaworthiness

3. Proof of ownership or right to use

4. Documents proving seamanship

5. Current insurance policy

6. Crew list

In addition:

• Report a radio transmitter if present on board

• Report underwater activity equipment

• Report auxiliary boat if longer than 3 m or with an engine rated at more than 4kW

• Compass and valid charts and pilots

If there is no registration document, the Port Authority will carry out and charge for an inspection of the boat on the spot. An insurance policy can be obtained in the Port Authority. A crew list will be verified by the Port Authority or an office of the PA. The owner of the vessel is bound to report any change in the crew.

If the owner of a vessel is a person domiciled abroad, he/she is bound to authorize a person to command the vessel in Croatia.

House Charter work can be carried out with a foreign vessel if the vessel is temporarily leased to a Croatian firm that has obtained a permit for this activity from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transportation and Tourism. Apart from these basic costs, in this case the charter vessel will pay a basic charge for the report and for a special inspection of the vessel.

Each foreign vessel and boat must have vignette and certified passenger list for the navigation in Croatian territorial waters.

Registration and vignette are issued by harbor master's office for a period of one year. Maritime Law from 12 January, 2005.

Before departing the country (sea route only) the departure of the vessel must be reported at the Port Authority, and the departure is entered into the navigation license.
